The graalur had carved away
half the nightmare's tentacles, but it had struck home effectively
with the rest. The graalur was bleeding profusely from wounds in his
left shoulder and the side of his face, and one of the tentacles was
embedded in his left forearm. He was weakening visibly. The creature
was pumping out dark blue ichor from the wounded head, and he hacked
at the side of its neck desperately. He was crying out in anger and
pain. If I intervened I might be able to defeat it and save him. All
common sense, however, told me to get the volg out of there.
I got the volg out of
there.
This is the last extract from this chapter of Sorrel in Scarlet. Next time I'm hoping to put up a small sequence from the sequal, Sorrel Snowbound.
Now I'm not sure if it was a good idea to eat just before reading this snippet... :-)
ReplyDeleteGood stuff, and I'd get the volg out of there as well.
Sorry - didn't mean to put you off your meal!
DeleteHaha! Love Sorrel's attitude! I would've gotten the volg out of there waaaay earlier! Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery unusual for Sorrel to show such good sense...
DeleteI like how pragmatic he is. He definitely picked the better option.
ReplyDeleteGreat imagery as always!
Thanks!
DeletePoor graalur. But, yes, in similar situations I, too, find myself getting the volg out. No shame or blame here.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel too sorry for the graalur - he was not a nice piece of work.
DeleteGreat characterization! I'm thinking I'd be gone as well. I enjoy the description of the fight, some great details.
ReplyDeleteThanks - your comments make it feel like it's worth the effort!
DeleteI, too, would have boogied the volg out of there. Love the action descriptions!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks again.
DeleteHe who fights and volgs away ;) Nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a bad influence on you - all this bad language you're all using! Glad you enjoyed it!
Delete"I got the volg out of there."
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Love this line, Peter.
:) Heidi
Thanks, Heidi!
DeleteLove the word 'volg'. Reminds me of Red Dwarf and when they used 'smeg' similarly. :D Great snippet!
ReplyDeletePrecisely that - a way to let Sorrel swear like a trooper without using actual obscenities!
